Privacy Policy
Smart Kids AI · Effective June 2026
1. No account, no sign-in
Smart Kids AI has no registration and no login. We never ask for your child's name, birthday, photo, email address, phone number or location. If you type a nickname in the Parent Zone it is stored only on the device and is never transmitted to us.
2. What stays on the device
- Lesson progress, stars, stickers and streaks
- The instruction language and any settings you choose
- Your optional Parent Zone PIN (stored in the device keychain, hashed)
- Your child's nickname and age band, if you enter them
Deleting the app, or tapping Delete all data in the Parent Zone, removes all of it. We hold no copy.
3. The talking fox (Sami)
Sami is off by default and can only be switched on by an adult, behind the parent gate. When it is on and your child taps the talk button:
- The recording is sent to our server, converted to text, answered by a language model and spoken back.
- The audio and the text are held in memory only for the moment it takes to reply. Nothing is written to our database or to disk.
- The conversation context is discarded when the session ends or the server restarts. There is no transcript for us — or anyone else — to read later.
- Speech-to-text, the language model and the voice are provided by OpenAI and Google as processors. They receive the audio needed to produce the reply and are contractually prohibited from using it to train their models.
- Sami's replies are filtered before and after the model: personal information, contact details, links and unsafe topics are blocked, and Sami never asks who or where your child is.
If you would rather nothing leave the device at all, leave Sami off. All 111 lessons work without it.
4. The microphone
The microphone is optional and off by default. Every lesson can be completed by tapping. iOS asks for permission only after someone taps a talk button, and denying it never blocks progress.
5. What our servers do receive
- An anonymous device token — a random string generated on your device the first time it is needed. We store only a salted hash of it, to cap Sami's daily usage and to stop people from posting fake leaderboard scores. It is not an advertising identifier and it cannot be linked to you.
- Anonymous product counters — for example "a paywall was viewed". Each carries a random install id, a two-letter country code and the app language. Nothing else is accepted: the server rejects any extra field. These records are automatically deleted after 90 days.
- Leaderboard entries, only if an adult opts in: an auto-generated nickname such as "Brave Fox 4213", a star count and a country code. Your child cannot type a name.
6. What we never do
- No advertising, ever. No ad networks, no interest profiles.
- No third-party analytics, attribution or marketing SDKs in the app.
- No access to the advertising identifier (IDFA), contacts, photos, camera, calendar or location.
- No selling, renting or sharing of data. There is nothing to sell.
- No behavioural profiling of children.
7. Children's privacy (COPPA / GDPR-K)
This app is made for children and is built to collect as little as physically possible. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, of any age. Adult-only areas — the Parent Zone, purchases, external links, the leaderboard opt-in and the Sami switch — sit behind a parental gate. Because we hold no personal information, there is no account to access, correct or export; you already hold everything, on the device.
8. Payments
If a subscription is offered in your region, the purchase is handled entirely by Apple. We never see your card, your name or your billing address — only whether an entitlement is active.
9. Changes
If this policy changes we will update this page and the effective date above. Material changes will also be summarised in the Parent Zone.
